Meet "The Bird Man"
After retiring to the Keowee Key community, Terry Allen was given a simple mission by his wife: pick up some bird seed to feed the wild birds visiting their backyard. What started as an errand quickly became a passion, and Terry soon developed a love for backyard birding himself.
That passion eventually led Terry to invent the Birdsong IdentiFlyer®, a device to helped bird enthusiasts learn and identify bird songs and calls. The Birdsong IdentiFlyer went on to sell more than 300,000 units and over a million song cards worldwide.
Terry's love for birds and nature ultimately inspired the opening of For The Birds, Oconee County's only dedicated wild bird supply store. Along the way, he earned the affectionate nickname, "The Bird Man."
Whether you're an experienced birder or just getting started, we'd love to welcome you to the store and help you discover the joy and wonder of backyard birdwatching.
Meet Waldo!
Waldo is the official greeter and unofficial quality-control manager at For The Birds. Whether you're shopping for bird seed, feeders, or gifts, there's a good chance you'll be welcomed by a wagging tail and a friendly face.
When he's not greeting customers, Waldo can usually be found keeping an eye on the store, supervising Terry, and making sure every bucket of Birdman's Blend meets his high standards.
Be sure to stop by and say hello—Waldo loves meeting fellow bird lovers almost as much as he loves treats!
